  • Personal interpretation
  • Artist interpretation
    • Which is more important?
      • Is art independent of human experience?
      • or, is art dependent on human experience?

The Scream

  • What does this painting mean?
    • How does it being part of the series “Love” change the meaning?
    • How does the title “The Shriek of Nature” change the meaning?
    • I was walking along a path with two friends—the sun was setting—suddenly the sky turned blood red—I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence—there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city—my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety—and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.”  How does the artists account change the meaning?

  • What Makes these two pieces art?

If You Seek Amy

  • Is this art?  Why or why not?
  • Is Britney an artist, or are the director, choreographer, writer, etc. the artists?
    • Is Britney a medium for art?
  • Is it art when view as art?
  • What happens to the poem “Richard Corey” if the name is replaced with Britney Spears?
